<image:title>TRAVEL STORIES - Nearly Imprisoned in Russia - The Europe/Asian Border just outside Moscow…</image:title>
<image:caption>What did I learn from this whole escapade? Not too much really…Bad luck seems to follow me, I’m still terrible with women & adventure brings out the best in me. All things I already knew…I’m being facetious of course! I suppose the main thing I learned was that I am more capable, confident & intelligent than I ever gave myself credit for. These 9 days gave me ammunition to chase life, a thrill & seek comfort in being uncomfortable…</image:caption>

<image:title>TRAVEL STORIES - Nearly Imprisoned in Russia - Camping near Omsk, Russia</image:title>
<image:caption>Our only option now was to drive back the single-track road 600 miles, which meant losing out on another day. We now only had 5 days left & I was mentally already eating prison food. We stopped for a rest & started to reform a plan of whether there was another way. It turned out there was only one shortcut, which was about 200 miles back the way we had come. But would take us onto the main road to Moscow. Having already wasted most the day, we thought we would risk taking the shortcut because at least it would feel like progress…</image:caption>

<image:title>TRAVEL STORIES - Nearly Imprisoned in Russia</image:title>
<image:caption>We now come to the meat of this over-cooked pie. Just after we had completed stage 4 of the Siberian World Rally Championships, another obstacle appeared. It was a very small village, which didn’t show up on the map…Another classic Maps.Me cock up to add to the list. The road had changed from gravel to several inches of thick juicy mud. The village had a population of around maybe 40 people & the average vehicle was a heavy-duty tractor.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Anyway, it was approved & I was informed would take 10 days to process. Which was cutting it bloody fine, as now my Mongolian Visa was close to expiring. We spent these days visiting numerous national parks, horse riding, hiking, yurt-ing & everything else in between. I certainly got my Mongolian fix that felt needed. I should add at this point, that I was travelling with my Ex-girlfriend who will remain nameless throughout this story, but is necessary in the narrative.</image:caption>

<image:title>TRAVEL STORIES - Nearly Imprisoned in Russia</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s conclude this saga. We made it to Moscow with 1 day to spare, in which we explored the capital, The Kremlin, St Basils & felt human again after 9 days of intense endurance driving nearly 5,000 miles. On the last day we were up early as my partner had booked a flight from Moscow to London. Always fearing the clock & especially on the last day, we made a quick escape to the airport. My plan was to drop her off & drive across the border into Belarus. Of course, things didn’t go to plan…</image:caption>

<image:title>TRAVEL STORIES - Arrested In Vietnam - A work of art, I think you’ll agree?</image:title>
<image:caption>So why on earth would I add insult to injury & further vandalise my already fucked passport? It’s a good question in fairness & all I can answer is…I was trying to be funny. Arguably the only thing I am good at is having rather quick wit & the ability to make a joke out of any situation. Even this one…Though truth be told, I was still too embarrassed to show my friends I was with, so the joke didn’t have an audience in the end. Though when I came to show it at the check in desk, not only were they laughing, half the employees in the airport stopped working to come & see this monstrosity.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Arrival Erbil airport was flat out bizare to us. With the coloured history of Iraq we were expecting the worst in terms of customs & security checks. To our utter bemusement, as soon as we showed our British passports we were ushered through & reunited with our luggage in under 15 minutes. Now we were the only western people in the airport other than some military contractors. We really did stick out with our large backpacks & clueless faces.</image:caption>

<image:title>TRAVEL STORIES - Backpacking In Iraq - Where it all went wrong</image:title>
<image:caption>Having spent a couple of days in the mountains, we were eager to explore the other side of the country. So far, transport had been relatively easy. So once more we asked our driver from the day before to take us to Dohuk on the other side of the country. We planned to use this city as a base to explore some areas & be able to have a decent hotel to get back to. But first we needed to get there…What we thought was going to be one taxi ended up being three! Our taxi driver we made friends with only took us so far. Before we found ourselves at another taxi terminal in the middle of the desert.</image:caption>

<image:caption>We encountered some local kids, who practised their English with us. The basics of your name, where are you from & how are you etc…As we awkwardly shuffled down the mountain, trying not to damage our feet any more. We once again walked past the kids & their entire family. Before you know it we are sat down with about 25 other people all staring at us like zoo animals. We shared photos, stories & they put on a feast. Mainly consisting of rice, bread, vegetables & a couple of goat heads. Yep, that’s right boiled goats head.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Based in Dohuk, we now had a couple of places on the outer rim we wanted to visit. But unsure where or whether they actually existed. Enter our new friend & Taxi driver, Ahmed I believe his name was. He ended up being our personal chauffeur for the day. Not only would he take us places, he ended up coming with us, guiding us & even took us back to his home for some chai tea. Where of course I embarrassed myself by knocking over a lot of water on their pristine carpet.</image:caption>

<image:caption>MT Korek & The Hijacked Motel Mount Korek, believe it or not is Iraq’s premium Ski-Resort complete with chalet’s & a German Ski-lift to get to the top. Although it does snow heavily in winter months, while we were there it was a roasting 32 degrees. Pleased with our progress we needed to find somewhere to stay. We could have stayed in the posh chalet’s at the top of the mountain, but were very expensive. So we decided to chance it with the motel opposite the Ski-lift. This would be our first big mistake.</image:caption>

<image:title>WORK WITH US - PUBLIC SPEAKING</image:title>
<image:caption>As mentioned above, we have been lucky enough to share our adventure stories at a number of different events, whether this be at festivals, travel events & even Univeristy/College open days. You can find many of our tales of adventure on this very website on the ‘TRAVEL STORIES’ tab. Our theme is very much pushing the boundaries of everday expectations, whether this be Backpacking in Iraq, driving around the world in my Nan’s car, Hithhiking to Morocco & more recently driving a Taxi to Albania in the midst of a pandemic. If you would like us to speak at your event, feel free to contact us…</image:caption>

<image:title>WORK WITH US - Adventure Consultant</image:title>
<image:caption>Not only have I managed to plan large scale adventures independently, but I have worked in Operations & Logistics for some of the major Travel companies in the game. From Intro Travel, Intredpid, Frontier & Education First. I was behind the scenes, designing & researching adventures that would go on to be sold worldwide. I specialised in South East Asia & parts of the Middle East. I also lived in Vietnam for 2 years, so I know that country like the back of my hand… More often than not I would travel, collaborate & make deals with different sales markets within these countries & would even guide the initial tours we set up. Once sucessful, I would manage these tours from the background, troubleshooting & improving them as they developed. This has given me a key eye for detail & have had to deal with pretty much every situation you can imagine… So if your a need to hire an Operations director or need a short term consultant to work on a project for your company, let me know…</image:caption>

<image:title>WORK WITH US - Hosting/Interviewing</image:title>
<image:caption>Are you running a festival or event, but need an MC, host or even someone to interview guests? Well look no further, as a Professional podcast & radio producer, I have been lucky enough to not only forge a career in making & creating content. But have also been hired to interview guests & host events. My usual process is to at least have a week to research & write a script when interviewing, so please bare this in mind. I am more than happy to speak to you first to collaborate & form a plan. As a former operations manager within the travel sector, I also have experience in putting on events, open days & festivals. So by all means if you need help in this department, let me know…</image:caption>
